How long can he keep it up?

CRAWFORD, Texas, August 20 – As “Camp Casey” dominates the news Bush is trying to regain a bit of that spotlight to defend the war in Iraq so many people are opposing. While outside his ranch the anti-war protesters, led by Cindy Sheehan, are gaining more and more followers Bush has decided to start a media offensive to try to get the nation behind him on this matter once again.

In his weekly radio address Bush kept up his defense that this war will ensure safety to all Americans. Urging that if we do not fight them in Iraq we will one day face them in our own country once again. He especially addressed the fallen soldiers by offering his condolences to the families, this seems to be a slight win for the mother of one of the many fallen soldiers, Cindy Sheehan, who has been demanding to speak to the President about the death of her son and the sense of this war. Sheehan remained represented outside of Bush’s ranch by many protesters while she headed back home to care for he sick mother.

It remains to be seen how much longer Bush can use 9/11 as trump card to regain support for this everlasting war. The memory is still fresh of how he played this card last year to win the election and stay in the Oval Office. It should be only a matter of time before the overwhelming protests will sway this administration to rethink their withdrawal policy.
