Which Terrorists?

Observations on a Very Hungry Conspiracy

May 16, 2002 may become the most significant day in the history of journalism. On that day, the tapestry of lies that has camouflaged the most reprehensible conspiracy in the history of America began to unravel. As we know, it was "The Very Hungry Caterpillar,"; which George Bush, Jr. was reading to elementary school children on the morning of September 11, 2001, as two hijacked airliners were slamming into the World Trade Center and thousands of Americans were dying. From that moment, and now we are beginning to understand, even well in advance of that moment, something far more egregious than an "intelligence failure," was attempting to devour democracy and decency in our world.

Former Naval Intelligence officer and author, Al Martin, notes in The Conspirators, referring to a private conversation with George Bush, Sr. that "what he [Bush] believed in, and how he had always operated, was on the Big Lie principle." In fact, Martin devotes an entire chapter in the book to the Bush family and its corporate, real estate and bank fraud, and it is Martin's essential conclusion that no one in the Bush family has ever achieved anything save by deception. While Martin's is most personally familiar with Bush clan sleaze in relation to the events of Iran-Contra, it is imperative that we understand that that particular disgrace is only one chapter in the epic saga of treacherous skullduggery practiced by generations of its ethically challenged family members.

But why is this important? Doesn't everyone know that from Brown Brothers Harriman to Broward County, the Bush Boys are ignoble felons? Webster Tarpley has documented it for us superbly in his Unauthorized Biography of George Bush, Sr., and likewise, Steve Pizzo in his September/October, 1992 article in Mother Jones Magazine, entitled "Bush Family Values." As journalist, Wayne Madsen, summarized in a recent Online Journalarticle, "The Bush family has managed to involve the United States in two wars; two invasions in Latin America, one that resulted in the fiery deaths of thousands of poor Panamanian barrio residents and another that resulted in the Bay of Pigs fiasco; aiding and abetting through murky financial investments America's Teutonic enemy in the last world war; corrupting the US Presidential election process; and making the wealthiest Americans and US corporations richer while at the same time cutting federal health, education and welfare budgets and offloading those tasks to the overburdened states." And now, as so many who have been so familiar with the devastations of the Bush clan for so long have been alerting us, the ultimate Bush deception, foreknowledge of the September 11 attacks, is out of the closet. What is not yet out of the closet, is that foreknowledge is not synonymous with "intelligence failure" but is yet one more horror in the Bush family's trail of death, destruction, and deviant demeanor.

Since mid-September, 2001, Mike Ruppert, Global Research Associates, The Emperor's New Clothes, and Larry Chinn and Bill Molson of Online Journal, have documented not only the plethora of advance warnings of the 9-11 attacks communicated to the Bush Administration, but the long-term strategy of the US government to occupy and economically and politically dominate Eurasia -a strategy explicitly outlined in Zbigniew Brezezinski's 1997 book The Grand Chessboard. Just this week, Cheryl Seal's extraordinary article, "Smoking Gun: The 9/11 Evidence That May Hang George W. Bush" appeared on this website.
Indeed, these journalists have documented US oil interests in Eurasia and the reality that the current military presence of the US in the region is the culmination of a war in the planning for four years before September 11 -a war inextricably connected with oil and CIA drug trafficking. Furthermore, other mysteries of questionable intent lurk in the shadows of 9-11 such as insider trading of United Air Lines and American Airlines stocks involving a firm solidly associated with the CIA and the destruction of documents pertaining to Enron trades stored in the offices of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the World Trade Center.

Post-May 16, the mainstream media is inundating the air waves with lies, as the Bush Administration and its minions attempt to con the American people as they did on September 11, "reassuring" us that nothing is more important to it than the safety and security of American citizens. Thus, when we hear Ari Fleischer continuing to sell the idea that the Bush Administration "had a plan" to dismantle al Qaeda but that "it had not yet been shared by the President," it is useful to recall the $600,000 that "Jr.," now President, made on his stocks just before Harken Energy went belly up -another one of those curiously-timed events that "just sort of happened." While George Bush, Jr. tells us that if he could have, he would have done anything to prevent the 9-11 attacks, we might recall his father's Iraq-gate caper, a scandal centered on $5 billion in US government guaranteed loans made to Iraq between 1985 and 1989 which were being fed directly into Saddam Hussein's military machine. Consequently, in September 1990, US Ambassador, April Glaspie, could amble into Saddam's office and seal the Gulf War conspiracy by offering a delicious Bush-borne lie: "We have no opinion on your Arab-Arab conflicts, such as your dispute with Kuwait. Secretary [of State James] Baker has directed me to emphasize the instruction, first given to Iraq in the 1960's, that the Kuwait issue is not associated with America."

As those demanding a full investigation of 9-11 are increasingly accused of "playing politics," there is much for all of us to remember: the savings and loan debacle of the 1980s which "transferred" billions of dollars from the savings accounts of hardworking Americans into the coffers of Iran-Contra, brought to us principally by Jeb and Neil Bush and their Texas mafia cronies who subsequently, firmly transplanted their tentacles inside Enron. Above all, it is imperative that we recall how the now back-peddling President acquired his current job in December, 2000 by appointment of the Supreme Court in a deceased democracy that could now potentially be resuscitated since the revelations of May 16.

Almost immediately after the Bush Administration's 9-11 scam was busted, it began fomenting hysteria regarding another impending attack, which according to Dick Cheney, would most certainly be the mother of all terrorist attacks. In the wake of the embarrassing revelations of foreknowledge, the administration had little recourse but to "wag Osama" and play up what one headline called an "increase of chatter and activity" among al Qaeda operatives. Hence the last-minute cancellation of Mike Ruppert's interview on FOX-TV News with Geraldo Rivera on May 18. We should not be surprised, but should expect more of the same. Tragically, there are likely to be more attacks, more bio-warfare incidents such as the anthrax letters that originated from government laboratories, more illegal invasions of privacy and violations of civil liberties. We are no longer living in a democracy; we are living in a criminal empire that will do whatever it takes to remain in power and profit from war. If this government could allow some 3,000 Americans to be slaughtered in one day on its own soil, its ravenous conspiracy will stop at nothing. At this point we need to confront the frightening reality that the terrorists on whom thinking Americans must focus unremitting attention are the administration felons who are determined to bully the American people into submission to their agenda. Fortunately, over half the nation believes that an investigation of 9-11 is necessary, and therefore, we must seize this moment to demand a thorough investigation -not of the Iran-Contra or savings and loan or Iraq-gate variety, but an investigation that probes, in laser-fashion, to the rock bottom realities of 9-11.

In a traumatized, yet scandal-weary nation, where the soporifics of shopping, "reality" TV and media with as much integrity as the Bush family all mitigate against more than skin-deep exploration of any controversy, it is essential that Americans who are awake and wish to remain awake, remember the lies, the atrocities and the web of conspiracies of the Bush family that are now historical fact and that we demand nothing less than total transparency, in-depth investigation and the evisceration of all subterfuge. Only then can the very hungry conspiracy be starved.
