British Royal Prince Harry and his actress wife Meghan Markle welcomed their first bundle of joy to the world in May.
The new baby boy weighed in around 7 pounds 3 ounces and was born in the early morning hours of May 6th. Initially, the couple didn’t have a name picked out for their first son.
However, the couple settled on Archie. The boy’s full name is Archie Harrison-Mountbatten Windsor.
The name is quite lengthy, but Prince Harry and Meghan were on a mission to choose a name that was a little more out-of-the-box.
Traditionally, UK royals are named after historical kings and queens. The couple broke away from this mold to really give their new baby boy a more modern name.
However, it isn’t as modern as it sounds.
Reports state that the name may be linked to Princess Diana’s ancestors, a Scottish Earl named Archibald Campbell. This would make the most sense because it would make “Archie” short for “Archibald”.
Then comes the child’s middle name, “Harrison”. However, there simply isn’t a definitive answer.
Speculations lean towards “Harrison” being a choice of tribute to the father as it generally means “Son of Harry” (or Henry in some cases and is of Aboriginal origin).
Others obviously think of Harrison Ford and the Star Wars franchise when they hear “Harrison”.
Whatever the purpose is behind the baby’s name, it is considered to be quite a nice name regardless of its length.
There were many bets around Britain right before the birth on what the couple would name the child. Numerous people were surprised when classic names like James or Edward were bypassed.
Once again, the name comes out of the blue rather than from a traditional UK royalty name pool.
The choice of a more modern-sounding name for their baby boy shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to people. When the power couple started dating it was a big buzz.
Not only because a Royal Prince was dating an actress but because his girlfriend was of mixed race. The barriers were further broken down when Prince Harry proposed to Meghan in November of 2017.
Prince Harry was blissful with his new fiance and proudly announced her to the British Royal Family.
While the Royals aren’t known for interracial dating, it certainly brought a different perspective to the table. In fact, there have been many instances where the Queen and Markle have been seen hanging out basically chit-chatting with each other.
Overall, their relationship seems pretty accepted through the Royal Family and the news of their son finally being born has brought even more joy to the Royal Family.
While waiting for the baby seemed to be forever, some say the wait for Archie’s birth certificate has been painful too. However, it was finally released around the 17th of May to the public.
This highly-anticipated certificate shed some light on more details about the baby’s birth.
The certificate doesn’t list a specific time, but as expressed, he was born on May 6th weighing 7 pounds, 3 ounces. This was announced via Instagram from Buckingham Palace.
It is estimated that she may have had the child around 5:30 a.m. however, this timestamp hasn’t been officially confirmed.
Additionally, the birth certificate has his birthplace as being in Portland Hospital, which is in Westminster.
To stick with modern trends, Meghan had considered doing a home birth which has made some recent comebacks for new mothers. Ultimately though, she decided to go with having the baby boy at the hospital.
Reportedly, the birth certificate reveals that the child’s name is listed just as “Archie”. This still leaves people in the air on whether or not the name is short for Princess Diana’s ancestor bearing the name “Archibald”.
The certificate simply states “Archie” which could mean that is all it is meant to be.
Furthermore, the baby’s official certificate states the occupations of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle very plainly as “prince and princess” of their respective titles.
This shouldn’t really be a surprise as they are royalty and their occupations are technically within the Royal Family now.
Regardless of where the name actually comes from, some sources were surprised to see the release of the child’s birth certificate to the public.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle both expressed prior to the birth that they preferred to keep the birth plans behind closed doors.
While they did stick to the original plan for the most part, in that they celebrated the birth of Archie privately, they did decide to release the birth certificate on the 17th of May.
This comes approximately 10 days after the child’s birth. Royal Family fans and the general public may have been impatient but they finally got a little more information.
While there isn’t an indication of when she was actually induced or how long her labour was, at least the public got to see some of the details surrounding Archie’s birth.
Between the privacy of the birth at first and the mystery around the child’s name, some Royal Family fans are still concocting theories. While they are brewing up theories, others are just glad to have a little sliver of information.
Perhaps the desire to keep the birthing details to a minimum and the delay in revealing the new baby boy’s name was all part of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s apparent desire to be seen as a modern-day couple among the British Royal Family.
If this is the case, they are certainly living up to those expectations that they have set in place for themselves.
The world is finally glad to have baby Archie (and he is super adorable!) just as Prince Harry and Meghan are as well.
There is no telling what the future holds for baby Archie or the couple. All that can be said for sure is that they got to have most of their privacy and give the world a little insight into their new child!
